F O P Benefits and Services At least once a year we like to remind our members of the benefits and services offered by the Fraternal Order of Police Crescent City Lodge New Orleans The Fraternal Order of Police was founded in 1915 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania It has grown into the largest police labor organization in the world with over 330 000 members nationwide and 6 500 members in the state of Louisiana with approximately 3800 FOP members living in the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area Our local Crescent City Lodge boasts 2 025 active members including 1019 active NOPD police officers as of Jan 1 2018 Legal Defense Plan The FOP Legal Defense Plan is unquestionably the best legal defense protection available to law enforcement officers For our active law enforcement members the annual cost of the plan is 264 00 per year for full coverage NOPD officers pay 11 00 per pay period Our at will employee members reserve officers sheriff deputies pay only 72 00 per year for criminal and civil coverage The FOP Legal Plan Provides an attorney and pays all reasonable necessary legal fees for any covered incident event Covers all on duty incidents events and all off duty incidents events when in the scope of employment Full disciplinary and limited criminal coverage on off duty out of scope incidents events Provides for investigators expert witnesses when necessary Salary Reimbursement Option in lieu of appeal if suspended 150 00 per day up to 5 days per year Limited Personal Legal Services and Free Notary Services Includes concealed carry coverage LEOSA which is also an optional benefit for our retired members Reminder for members who are not active NOPD officers FOP Legal Plan coverage is an optional benefit Please check your coverage status in the annual FOP Membership Information mail out later this month Salary Reimbursement Option only available when represented by an FOP core plan attorney Member Representation The FOP Crescent City Lodge provides labor services to our active NOPD members through our labor legal legislative and civil service committees We meet regularly with members of the police and city administrations on issues concerning wages benefits and working conditions and we petition the Civil Service Commission for rule changes that benefit our members Our LAFOP State Lodge has contracted with the lobbying firm of Mapes Mapes to serve as our legislative lobbyists in Baton Rouge Insurance Benefits The FOP Crescent City Lodge provides an Insurance Benefit package to each member at no cost 35 000 00 line of duty death benefit active law enforcement members 14 000 00 accidental death benefit active law enforcement members 4 000 00 accidental death benefit active and retired members 2 000 00 natural death benefit active and retired members Scholarships We offer 8 000 00 in scholarships each year for college high school and grade school Each member and their immediate families attending any public private or parochial school are eligible to receive a scholarship All scholarships are selected by luck of the draw 3 500 00 will be awarded at our January meeting FOP Family Fund The FOP Family Fund offers assistance to our members when an on duty injury administrative reassignment due to an on duty incident or a personal tragedy leaves them struggling with financial hardship The FOP Family Fund is financed through donations from our members and friends In 2017 the FOP Family Fund provided a total of 61 250 00 in direct assistance to our members in need Monthly Meetings Perhaps the best benefit offered to our members is the fraternalism and camaraderie available at our monthly membership meetings A full dinner is served prior to each meeting and liquid refreshments are always available Please read the Odds Ends column inside for information on additional benefits and check out our national state and local websites social media for additional information www fop net www foplegal com www louisianafop com www fopno net www facebook com fopno www twitter com fopno

MEETING SCHEDULE Our January 2018 membership meeting will be held on Tuesday January 9 2018 at the Lakeview Presbyterian Church meeting hall 5914 Canal Blvd one block north of the I 610 Canal Blvd exit Dinner will be served at 6 30PM and the meeting will begin at 7 00PM Chef John Schluter and our FOP Kitchen Krewe will be serving a dinner of baked ham and potatoes with a salad of beets and onions over greens with cake for dessert F O P SCHOLARSHIPS At our January 2018 General Membership Meeting the Fraternal Order of Police will again award a total of seven scholarships valued at 500 00 each Scholarships to be awarded are Two P F I A scholarships Dave Lentz area PFIA representative and FOP Insurance Committee Chairman provides these scholarships ADDITIONAL FOP BENEFITS FOP LICENSE PLATES These valid Louisiana license plates available to all FOP members feature the FOP Emblem and the words FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE To order an FOP License Plate you must present a copy of your vehicle title proof of insurance and a letter from the Louisiana State Lodge certifying your membership in the Fraternal Order of Police The necessary letter can be obtained by visiting our State Lodge website www louisianafop com and scrolling down to the Louisiana FOP License Plate Request block There will be a 25 00 fee assessed for new plates and two year renewals This fee is being collected by the DMV to support the LAFOP Foundation FOP Motorcycle License Plates are also available For assistance in obtaining an FOP License Plate please contact FOP State Trustee Billy Roth at 504 4432128 One P M B A scholarship for college students Two J Fant Taylor Memorial Scholarships for college students Two F O P Scholarships for High School Grade School students FOP members their spouses children and grandchildren are eligible to receive scholarships Each F O P member may submit one application form for each eligible family member All scholarship applications must be received by Chairman Shaw prior to 01 09 2018 No applications will be accepted at the meeting For additional information please contact Scholarship Committee chairman Louie Shaw at 504 887 5273 A scholarship application appears on the back of this newsletter SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE FOP Insurance Chair Dave Lentz a licensed insurance agent can assist both active and retired members with all of their supplemental insurance needs Dave Lentz can be reached at 985 649 5741 POST QUALIFYING RETIRED MEMBERS The FOP is helping our retired members attain the Post Certification required under HR 218 LEOSA Judy Graffeo owner of Professional Security Training has agreed to qualify members for a fee ranging from 80 00 to 120 00 depending upon last qualification date Our lodge will pay one half of that fee for our retired members must have FOP membership card Professional Security Training Inc is located at 603 S Clark Street in New Orleans Training is held on the 2nd Thursday of each month For additional information contact Professional Security Training at 504 524 1410 NOPD HANDBOOK FOR SMARTPHONES The FOP is proud to make this unofficial handbook app available to all FOP members at no cost for both Android and Apple devices Just search for NOPD HANDBOOK Quick Reference to commonly used traffic codes Listing of Police Signals Radio Codes Phonetic Alphabet and Civilian to Military Time Miranda Warning in multiple languages Searchable Municipal Traffic and Criminal Codes Important Phone Numbers Keyboard Shortcuts District Maps with zone and sub zone Developed by FOP member Derek Canatella
